Hello Mayoy.

I agree that the new Cavalli designed costumes look terrible. Its worth noting that the original (and far better) designs will also be worn at the club.

But, from the interviews I have read, the current Playmates employed on Bunny promotions have all expressed their sense of honour they feel in being asked to wear the famous costume. In addition they express how much fun it is to wear the uniform (apart from the tightness) and the thrill of looking sexy in it. Former Los Angeles Bunny Pat Lacey acts as a modern Bunny Mother / Co-ordinator for these modern Bunny promotions, and she would probably confirm this further.

The same high standards (for beauty, charm and conduct) that applied in the original Playboy Clubs, and made the Bunnies such a world-famous phenomenon, are applied by Playboy today. Although I do not subscribe to the magazine, it has certainly changed (as any publication does) over time. Many lifelong Playboy fans have mourned the falling standards at the the magazine they love. But I do not believe this decline applies to the Bunny herself. From what the footage I have seen and the interviews I have read, Playboy and the modern Bunnies still maintain the same standards of 'Bunny Image' and charisma as the original generations of Bunnies did back when the clubs flourished.

Undoubtedly society has moved on, and no doubt the next generation of Bunnies (actually working in the new club) will have a different conception of the job than did the Bunnies of the original era. But it could be argued that Bunnies from the early-Sixties were a separate breed from the Bunnies of the mid-Eighties. Two separate generations; two breeds of the same species. The potential clientele for a Playboy Club has also changed, and today's nightclubs are far removed from those of the Sixties. Playboy has ridden change before, especially in the club business: the shift from Sixties to Seventies posed many problems for the Playboy Clubs, and the dawn of the Eighties heralded the unfortunate demise of the clubs (they had been failing even before the Eighties).

Well have to wait and see if this new Playboy Club at the Palms is a success. In my heart I hope it will be, but my head tells me otherwise. I think the only way Playboy Clubs could flourish again is if they are run as gambling/entertainment complexes. That's where the money lies. An old-style Playboy Club could not survive in today's seedy adult entertainment environment where every city (and even small towns) is infested with various strip clubs. A route I hope any new Playboy Clubs never take.

The press and public reaction is certainly going to be very interesting come May 2006. Its funny about the Bunny: Playboy will be criticised by some if the Bunny hasn't moved on, and criticised by others if she has changed too much! The Bunny is something you either love, hate, or are indifferent to. This was true back then, it will be true today. Hopefully the numbers are on Playboy's side for the Second Coming of the Cottontail!
